“We Wish You Every Success with It Elsewhere...”
Self-publishing, the venue where discomfited foxes will find passable grapes,
has suffered much undeserved stigma ever since its own furious conception.
Undeserved in that a brigade of much elevated writers at some point in their
career also resorted to printing their own writings, like that fine Romanian
poet who shot his wife, or that Albanian modernist who died from syphilis,
or the New York City playwright who jumped off the Empire State Building.
“Art is esperance,” as the great poetist Marbellion put it, in his suicide note.
True, your life’s ambition may have ended up side by side with some rejected
Swiss WWII memoirs, a 900-page zombie epic, or even neo-romantic verse,
but remember that time you were called “unique,” in that rejection letter.
With the backing of so many houses, success must await, elsewhere.
